Abstract [eng] Overview of Fabacea family prospects for type 2 diabetes‘ treatment and determinantion of phenolic content and their antioxydant potential of alfalfa. L. Grubliauskaitė. Master thesis. Object: Raw plant material of alfalfa Birute and Malvina varieties collected in Dotnuva. Aim and Objectives To review Fabacea family plant application for type 2 diabetes‘ treatment and to determine total phenolic copounds and flavonoids content and antioxidant and chelatory activity of M. sativa. Methods Total phenolic content was determined by Folin– Ciocalteu method. Flavonoid content was determined by UV spectofotometric method converted to Routine and expressed in mg/g. Antioxidant activity was determined by the spectrophotometric method which is based on the absorbance decrease monitoring of the DPPH· (2,2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical. The chelation of ferrous ions was determined by spectofotometric method. Conclusions The most phenolic compounds were found in flowers material and were similar in both variety. The most total flavonoid content was found in flowering phase and was similar in both variety. There was determined a slight difference of total phenol and total flavonoid content in different vegetation phases and in dried 65±5°C and in lyophilized material. The highest antioxidant activity was determined in seeds material and was similar in both variety. There was found that lyophilized Birutė‘s material had a lower antioxidat avtivity than dried in 65±5°C, althougt, Malvina‘s material contrariwised. The highest chelatory activity was found in seed material of Birutė variety. The highest chelatory activity was determined in tillering phase and also in dried in 65±5°C and in lyophilized material. Plants of Fabacea family including M. sativa can be used for 2 type diabetes‘ and it‘s complication‘s treament.
